A case of Essential Thrombocythemia

Abstract

|
We experienced a 22-year-old female patient with essential thrombocythemia, who used
to suffer from intermittent, mild brusibility. The number of her peripheral platelets rose
up to 2,100,000/㎣ and the platelet adhesiveness with glass bead columns showed normal
finding.
The tests for platelet aggregation with aggregometer revealed moderately diminished
responsiveness to adenosine diphosphate, but normal responsiveness to both epinephrine
and collagen.
She was treated either with chlorambucil(6㎎, P.O. daily) or busulfan(2∼6㎎, P.O.
daily). The platelet count became normalized with 8 week's medication, and she was in
good healthy condition. We present the case with laboratory findings, clinical course and
with brief review of literature.
